Way back in 2003 while I was training boxer "Jesse" James Leija we traveled to Melbourne, Australia as he prepared to fight for the World Championship belt held by Kostya Tszyu. Our training gym was an awesome place called "Underworld" where they made us more than welcome. Anyways, the owner Matt Trihey gave me his business card and the poem Invictus was printed on the back. I had never read it before and for some unknown reason after I did it really seemed to speak to me and to this day it continues to do so. Now I have had one hell of a life and like most people I've suffered though hard times and at other times was on the top of the world. No matter what life has thrown at me I have always survived and come out on top. I do not and I will never compromise my integrity nor my philosophy. I thank God for my unconquerable soul.
Invictus by William Ernest Henley Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find me unafraid, It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.
