Big Ass Tires.... OH MY

be still my heart ...

Way back in 1987 not long after moving to San Antonio I started training at Olympic Gym.

After a partially hard training session I decided to walk over to Fuddruckers and eat a big damn yummy burger and some onion rings (great … now I’m hungry again).  Bob told me about a short cut down the alley behind the gym to get there quicker.  When I got to the end of the driveway I discovered something that was just beautiful … big ass tires everywhere!!!

Forgetting for the moment how hungry I was I asked the guys working if I could flip them and tried to explain why I wanted to flip these  monstrous tires … the look these  guys gave me was was absolutely priceless then I was told “Yeah crazy white boy knock yourself out”  while they laughed and just shook their heads.

Later I learned that the owner of the store was a long time gym member and knew why I was back there wanting to flip his tires.  He had his guys tell me about how much some of the tires weighed and the guys enjoyed showing me how to flip them and I'm sure laughing as I struggled to flip them. Here I am a strong ass champion powerlifter weighing 265+ pounds and these skinny dudes are moving them around like nothing and I’m cussing up a storm from being frustrated whiles I'm sweating my ass off and trying to catch my breath.

Just another lesson in ‘you can learn something from almost everyone’

If you know me then you know that my Dad and I never had the normal 'father/son' relationship that so many of you out there enjoy with your fathers and so when I see the young men that I coach struggle with the dynamics of this important relationship I share with them stories from own personal struggles.
